Install Entryware Mobile for Handhelds

Palm OS Devices

All Palm devices come with PC software called the Palm Desktop, which enables communications between the handheld and the PC. You must install the Palm Desktop software, assign a unique User Name to each handheld, and synchronize each handheld with the PC before you can install and use the Entryware Mobile software. Follow the instructions that came with the handheld computer to install the Palm Desktop software and perform the initial sync. Complete any other setup specific to the model of handheld you are using.

Note:     It is highly recommended that you read the user guide provided with the handheld and become familiar with the operation of the device and the synchronization process before starting to use it with Entryware.

Tips on User Names

The Palm Desktop software requires that a unique User Name be assigned to each handheld.  Assigning User Names to all handhelds according to a consistent scheme simplifies project management and asset tracking. Choose a scheme that provides you with the most useful information. Two suggested approaches are to name handhelds after the device model, or based on the location where they will normally be used.

e.g., for two Palm z22 devices belonging to a company or division: ABC_z22_001 and ABC_z22_002 (where ABC is the name of the company)

e.g., for mall locations across the country: ParkRoyal01, ParkRoyal02, Hillside01, etc.

Other tips:

·      Check the User Name on a handheld by tapping the Application Launcher button and then the HotSync icon. The User Name is shown in the top right corner of the screen.

·      Print the User Names on self-adhesive labels and apply to the respective devices for quick identification, even when a unit is not functioning. Weatherproof and tamper proof labels can be obtained from office specialty suppliers.

·      On the PC, you can add/change/delete User Names by selecting Tools > Users in the Palm Desktop software.

·      Check the documentation that came with the handheld, or the Help system in the Palm Desktop software, for additional information on managing User Names.

Windows Mobile Devices

Windows Mobile devices come with PC software called ActiveSync, which enables communications between the handheld and PC.  You will need to install Microsoft ActiveSync and connect the handheld to the PC.

Entryware requires the StyleTap platform to operate on a Windows Mobile device.  Install the StyleTap platform before proceeding.
