Install Entryware Mobile using the Entryware Handheld Setup Wizard

1.  Start the Handheld Setup Wizard
The Handheld Setup Wizard should automatically after the main installation.  You may also start it at any time from the Designer, Data Manager, or Dataport program by selecting Tools > Handheld Setup Wizard

2.  Select the Installation type
Select the type of installation you would like to perform.  A Full Install will install all the necessary files for using Entryware Mobile with your handheld.  Use Custom Install if you would like to install only specific files to the device.  Reasons for using Custom Install:

Example 1:  A new version of Entryware Mobile has been released and you would like to simply upgrade the application.  In this scenario, if you ran the full installation, you would be required to enter a license, setup communication settings, etc.  By using the Custom Install option, you can simply install only the application file to simplify the upgrade process.

Example 2:  A new language localization file is available for Entryware and you would like to access it on the handheld.  Again, in this scenario, you would simply like to install only this new language file and not all the other files that normally get installed with a full installation.  In this event, select Custom Install and only the Languages option selected.

3.  Select the Device Type
Select the type of device you will be installing to.  If you need to install to both Palm OS and Windows Mobile devices, install for one device type then run the wizard again to complete the process.

4.  Select Devices
Select the user names of the devices on which to install the Entryware Mobile software.

Note:     Currently it is not possible to select more than one Windows Mobile device at a time.  Only the device currently cradled with an ActiveSync connection is permitted.

Tip:        To facilitate data and device management during the collection phase of a project, and to simplify reinstallation of the software should that ever be required, record the license numbers assigned to each device as described in the next step.

5.  Licensing
Enter the Entryware Mobile license codes.  A unique license is required for each handheld. Enter the codes in the text area provided, one per line.  If you have many license codes, select the “Paste Editor” to paste all licenses at one time.

Tip:        If you received your license codes via e-mail, we recommend that you copy & paste them to eliminate errors.

6.  Server Settings (Optional)
If you will be synchronizing with an Entryware Server, you may enter the server settings at this stage.  For more information on this, please see the Entryware Server documentation.

7.  Local Sync Settings (Optional)
For Windows Mobile devices, you will need to enable local sync.  This uses the Entryware Sync Service on the PC to synchronize.  If you have a Palm OS device with a TCP/IP connection, you may also use this to sync with the desktop.

8.  Application Languages (Optional)
The Entryware Mobile application can be displayed in a number of different languages.  This includes all system messages, menus, etc in the application.  If you require a language that is not in the list, please contact Techneos.

9.  Synchronize the Device(s)

Palm OS Devices - Connect each of the mobile devices that will have the software installed, in turn, to the HotSync cradle or cable. Press the HotSync button on the cradle or cable, or start the HotSync application on the device if there is not a button.  The HotSync application will start on the device and a HotSync Progress window will appear on the PC (it may be hidden behind other open windows). The messages Synchronizing Entryware” should show briefly on the device screen, with “Installing handheld applications” and “Synchronizing Entryware” on the PC. Other messages may also appear. Wait until the device screen shows “HotSync operation complete” before disconnecting it. Repeat this process for each device.

Windows Mobile Devices – Click the “Install Now” button when prompted.  The application files will be installed.

11. Click Next and then Finish on the Handheld Setup Wizard screen to complete the setup.

CAUTION!
If your handheld device does not have non-volatile memory, all data is lost and all software except the built-in programs will need to be reinstalled if the batteries in a device go completely dead, are removed for more than approximately one minute, or if the device undergoes a hard reset. To avoid loss of response data, synchronize handhelds with a PC frequently. Make sure the PC data files are backed up. For any situation where frequent synchronization with a PC is not possible, memory cards allow the Entryware Mobile software, questionnaire files, and respondent data files to be backed up from and restored to a device in the field. They are highly recommended.
